Ruto Hails Deal With Raila, Promises New Path for Kenya

In his speech, President Ruto hailed the welcomed the MoU and vowed to work together with Raila Odinga.
"Our country is undergoing major shifts across social, economic, and political spheres. Many of these transformations are occurring within the broader context of globalisation and unprecedented technological, geopolitical, climatic, and demographic changes, creating an atmosphere of immense pressure, formidable challenges, and an existential crisis," said the president.
Never before have Kenyans expressed such a deep and widespread yearning for positive change and political, economic and social transformation that leaves no one behind."
The expectation for fundamental progress is unanimous, consistent, intense, and universal across the nation, Ruto added.
"As leaders and as a generation of citizens, we must embark on a bold and radical path of national transformation β confronting and resolving the fundamental issues that have shaped every national crisis since independence. This is the path towards the promised land where freedom and opportunity are guaranteed for all," read Ruto's statement.
On his part long-time opposition chief Raila Odinga said the goal of the MoU is to help ease the prevailing tensions in the country.
"We also aim to move the country forward by addressing the critical social, political, and economic issues our people are grappling with todayβ he said.
Odinga further stated that after they arrived at the decision to make significant changes citing that it is not enough to merely grandstand or stand aside and criticize, easy as those may be.
"They say any madman can kick down a ban, but it takes a good carpenter to build one," said Raila.
